Nine Facts about internet of things, you must need to know

By : Unknown
On : 14:25

I am just recalling my previous article on IoT, before picking start on today’s factual one, where I have introduced (in detail) you guys with a neologism called “The Internet of Things”. So this time I would not be any more formal about this M2M and would directly start discussing 10 hidden facts about internet of things which every one of you must need to know. You may come to know that ‘what does actually mean it in your life’, when everything around you (fridges, heaters, cooling fans, lights, smoke detectors, servant call system and many more) is going to connect each other in upcoming days, at the end of this article.

We're going to talk our devices (like a friend)

Yes I am saying right. As I have stated earlier that devices and equipment in our homes or surroundings are being connected through internet of things, so we will communicate with this network using different interfaces. But question is that, how we will really talk to our fridges, ovens, doors or CCTV (what interface)? According to the idea and concept of electrical and computer experts, we will use smartphones, tablets, independent operating systems to talk and order our devices. In fact we will deliver our conversation through OS and devices will sense and understand me through their built-in sensors (like my friend do through his brain). Well, it is also expected that voice may be a medium to talk devices, I have learned from Pew’sResearch on IOT.
Talk to your devices with IoT

Will our devices talk to each other freely?

I guess, to answer this question and to make it easy for you, I’m a little bit hesitating. I don’t know how these inter connected device will communicate and talk each other, when obviously all of them is not going to have same manufacturer tag. Well I would want to mention here that “In the internet of things each thing should have to be same protocol for connectivity”, but I don’t know how different manufacturers will do it possible? You can imagine trend of IOT in devices by the fact that Research firm Gartner thinks that, by 2020, there will be 26 billion connected devices around the world, that’s mean producing huge amounts of data.

Is your home going to a hack-able one?

Now consider some privacy threats, which nations are being expected. As in neologism “IOT” every smart device on globe is connected each other, so there are plenty of clear chances that your bed room’s CCTV record or safety locker may gone hacked by some intruder living on other patch of globe (just like hacking of classical internet). According to a survey report “the potential for cars to be attacked electronically is a more serious concern.” I Guess you may be feeling sad (just like me) about this bad angle of this technology. But I think too, you don’t need to worry so vigorously, Internet Of things may have a solution of this security threat inside itself in future (Just like antivirus came to encounter virus).

Mr. Cameron has been founded a big fan of IoT

Well you may be wonder, more than any other fact here, PM of Great Britain Mr. David Cameron is greatly interested to revolutionize globe with internet of Things. For this motto, his government has invested £73m in the M2M (Great budget!).

Other than Great Britain, world is investing in it

Although Cameron (Head of one of the big nations) is thinking seriously about IOT but other nations, multinational groups, research centers and organizations are putting flame in this technology too. A famous research firm ‘CB Insights’ have claimed recently that investors have pumped $1.1bn (£667m) into M2M technology in 2013.

My friend Google is also throwing cash in this buzz

It was bold news in the tech world at the start of this year (January, 2014), Google has paid nearly $3.2 billion to buy a US based firm “NEST”. Remember that co-founder of this firm is father of the iPod Tony Fadell, who have been working on networked thermostatic system and connected smoke detector (Smart fire Alarm System) for domestic villas and commercial buildings under NEST.  According to an official of my friend Google, this deal having bulk investment of $3.2 bn was made with a professional promise with Tony to fire up the Google's progress towards the "conscious home".

It's about connected computers in everything

I think you must be aware with this simple descriptive phrase about IoT, most of you are boggled about this technology, The internet of thing is about putting internet with physical things in our life. I guess you might be hearing about M2M (IoT) so simply, very first time. So it’s about that you are connecting wirelessly smoke detectors, washing machines, dryers, CCTV, Air conditioners and what so ever product is being existed in your life all together with internet.

Your Cars are most important connection in this entire network (internet)

Recently you might be hearing, all away on internet globe, Google just has launched a driverless car (smart). Basically this car is simplest example of IOT where car is furnished with sensors and wirelessly connected with other thing to drive smartly without drivers. So after seeing potential (benefits) of M2M in cars, you may say your car is one of the biggest "things" in your life that's getting connected. Apple recently unveiled CarPlay (device), which puts your iPhone (Although iOS is not safe) in charge of your car's infotainment system. Similar to Apple, Google along with Android and especially Microsoft is working on smart cars since 1990 (one year before my birth).
Google driverless car: an example of IOT

Yes, Smart Washing machines are also big thing.

Now let’s talk about washing machines, just like Cars, every year demand of smart washing machines is going upward enormously to wash laundry (control from office quality etc. through your smartphone). Ok I would also tell you something interesting here (end of this article). Washing machines of Technology firm Berg's Cloudwash sends text alerts before starting its final cycle with buttons to buy more conditioner and detergent online. This is really a fact about amusement of the internet of things.
Well this was all about, some amazing nine facts about internet of things, everyone must know them. Apart from these amazing facts, if you know something else good about IoT please do let us know below in comment section. Up till next take care, every one of you.
